Neuroma
| |
| A Neuroma is a nerve that is pinched between
two metatarsal bones. The nerve becomes inflamed and enlargement of the
nerve may occur. Abnormal bone structure contributes to the cause, but
too-tight shoes can aggravate the condition. You may experience
sharp or burning pain in your toes. The pain may be relieved by
taking off your shoes and rubbing the area.
Treatment may consist of injection, physical therapy, taping and orthotics. If conservative measures do not alleviate the symptoms surgery may be indicated. Surgical excision of the Neuroma involves removing a portion of the nerve. Following surgery you will be able to walk in a surgical shoe. Stitches will remain in place for 1-2 weeks and the foot must be kept dry. Your doctor will discuss your individual procedure, post operative care and possible complication with you prior to your surgery. If you have any questions please don not hesitate to ask your doctor., The more you know about what to expect, the more smoothly your foot surgery and recovery are likely to go.
